November is Prematurity Awareness Month
Did you know that November is Prematurity Awareness Month? Did you realize that 1 in 8 babies in the US is born premature? Join me and the other parents, NICU staff members and friends who are working together to educate the public about the impact of prematurity by Blogging for Prematurity Awareness. We invite you to blog about your preemie experiences and contact us so we can add a link to your blog here.
In recognition of Prematurity Awareness Month we would like to offer our customers of Elliot's Preemie Tees weekly specials. This week's special is free shipping on every order! In addition we pledge to donate 10% of all our orders during the month of November to the March of Dimes for the fight against prematurity! So place your order today and help us with this important issue! And get FREE stuff too!

In addition we urge you to sign the Petition for Preemies!
Citing premature birth as the number one killer of American newborns, the March of Dimes has named November as Prematurity Awareness Month to draw attention to this increasingly common, costly and serious public health problem. Between 1981 and 2003, the rate of premature births rose from 9.4 percent to 12.3, an increase of almost 31 percent. Every year nearly 500,000 infants are born prematurely. That's roughly comparable to the population of Cleveland.

Petition for Preemies
November is Prematurity Awareness Month
In honor of this important month the March of Dimes has issued a petition. Below is a petition that I urge all to sign in support of helping our sweet little preemies. You can sign the petition by going to the March of Dimes -
1. We urge the federal government to increase support for prematurity-related research and data collection as recommended by the Institute of Medicine and the Surgeon General’s Conference on the Prevention of Preterm Birth, to:
* (a) identify the causes of premature birth;
* (b) test strategies for prevention;
* (c) improve the care, treatment and outcomes of preterm infants;
* (d) and better define and track the problem of premature birth.
2. We urge federal and state policymakers to expand access to health coverage for women of childbearing age and to support smoking cessation programs as part of maternity care.
3. We call on hospitals and health care professionals to voluntarily assess c-sections and inductions that occur prior to 39 weeks gestation to ensure consistency with professional guidelines.
4. We call on businesses to create workplaces that support maternal and infant health.
